The first is Kafka's Metamorphosis, which produced a Gregor Samsa transformed into a monstrous insect in the plague of 1912. The second event of 2020 is the warning from the president of Brazil, that if vaccinated against the plague of covid, Brazilians could turn into alligators. In this comparative analysis, literature and meme converge and we discuss the realism of one and the fantastic realism of the other. We analyze the short circuit in these two catastrophes from the perspective of humor, its impacts and its capacity for anti-authoritarian transformation.
2022-08-10T02:14:56+00:00Copyright (c) 2022 Entreverohttp://18.116.118.66/index.php/entrevero/article/view/48"Above the Water": Immersion and Flotation in Become Ocean and "Skywoman Falling"2022-08-10T02:52:24+00:00Xavier Blackwell-Lipkindxavier.blackwell-lipkind@yale.edu
This article deploys the concepts of “immersion” and “flotation” in order to examine the representations of human-water relationships in Become Ocean, an orchestral composition by John Luther Adams, and “Skywoman Falling,” the inaugural essay in Robin Wall Kimmerer’s collection Braiding Sweetgrass. I propose that both works imagine the sea as a space of reconciliation between the human and the natural. But while “Skywoman Falling” presents an aquatic creation story, Become Ocean takes the form of an apocalyptic warning about “polar ice” and “sea level[s],” raising questions about how the changing climate inflects artistic production. Taken together, the works gesture toward a sort of crude human-nature — or human-ocean — cycle in which humans continually approach and distance themselves from the natural world.
The present article seeks to discuss the importance of the work Levana and Our Ladies of Sorrow, by Thomas de Quincey, part of the essays that make up the work Suspiria de Profundis, published in 1845. For this we proceed to a brief description of the author, and then focus on the content of the essay. At the end, the influence of the text on the film trilogy by Dario Argento, called the trilogy of Mothers, is analyzed.
2022-08-10T02:48:14+00:00Copyright (c) 2022 Entrevero
